Hints Section — helpful hints for using this document
- The frame along the bottom of your screen is always visible. You may click on any of the boxes at any time to bring up an appropriate screen.
- The Back Button. Selecting the "back" button from the menu bar on your browser should show you exactly the same set of Frames you were viewing before you started viewing this "hint" file. If selecting the "back" button shows you the the HTML page that you were looking at before you started your visit to this standard page, your browser is non-standard, and the following item might be of some help,
- To back up within a frame, right-click your mouse within the borders of
the frame within which you want to back up. Select the option "back in frame"
from the pop-up menu that appears. For example, here is a black dot ().
Place your mouse cursor on the dot and press the right-hand button on your
mouse. If you select "back in frame," this frame will change to show you
the information that was in this frame previously.
- To print any of the sections in this standard, position your mouse in the frame showing the selected section and press the left mouse button. You may notice an almost impercetable flicker in that frame when you do that. What has happened is that you have "highlighted" that frame. Now, press the "print" button from your browser's button bar. You will send a copy of the selected frame to your printer.
- Experiment. Have fun. All files are read-only, so you can't accidently change anything.
Large Files
- Many of the sections and figures are quite large and will take a proportionally long time to download. When you select one of these sections, your browser may not give you an obvious indication that it is downloading the file. Most browsers do, however, have a button called "Stop" on the menu bar. If that button is lit up, that means that it is in the process of downloading a file. When the Stop button turns off, the file has finished downloading.
- If you do not wait for a section to completely download before you start paging through the file, you may accidently abort the transfer and have only part of a section. If you see the phrase "Transfer Interrupted" at the very bottom of a page, you'll know that you accidently aborted the transfer and need to reload that page to see all of the information.
- If you select a hyperlink and your browser calls up the correct page, but does not position your view at the selected link, you have not fully loaded the referenced document. Select "Reload Frame" from
your browser menu (if your browser has this feature).
